Music Lessons Contract
Lessons are typically offered weekly (with exceptions to teacher/student agreement) for 30-minute lessons.
Students taking music lessons are expected to practice for 30 minutes 4-5x a week. These expectations will help the student be as prepared as possible for their lessons and the most progress is seen by implementing this rule. This also helps with the student’s physical and mental stamina which will make the lessons more productive, which increases the value of each lesson.
Parents are encouraged to be involved in encouraging their children to practice. Students are responsible for their consistent practice, with the encouragement of their parent. Quality practice time is without distractions. This should take place in a quiet, comfortable area. It should be a distraction free zone.
Students are expected to arrive on-time and have their instrument ready to go. If you are running late for any reason, please call or text your teacher. Your lesson time will not be extended because you are late. You will be charged the full amount for the lesson. If your teacher is running late for any reason, they will notify you as soon as possible and make up the missed lesson time to you.
Unexcused lessons will not be tolerated. You will still be charged for missing a lesson without prior notice. Consecutive unexcused absences are grounds for termination of lessons and you are still responsible to pay for missed lessons. If you must miss a lesson for any reason, we require 24 hours in advance of your scheduled lesson time, or you will be charged. Students may terminate lessons permanently with written notice 30 days in advance.
If your teacher misses a lesson for any reason, they will notify you as soon as possible. They will conduct a makeup lesson if the student requests it.
If school is cancelled for weather or any other reason, please let your teacher know if you will be attending your lesson.
Students are responsible for the purchase of their own books, instruments, and other materials needed for the lessons. Your teacher can counsel you on what materials to buy and where to buy them. Some method books are available for free PDF online. We suggest searching the book before purchasing to see if it is available for free. Materials ordered online are expected within two weeks of when they are assigned to the student. The student must also bring a binder with lined-paper and/or a notebook, and a pencil.
Students are expected to prepare their lesson material to the best of their ability. Being unprepared is essentially a waste of a lesson. Practice is the most important part in learning an instrument. It is essential that you bring your assigned books and/or materials to the lesson.
